چکیده

In this paper we propose to support symmetric bidirectional route optimization in mobile IPv4 considering ingress-filtering routers. We developed subnet-based direct tunneling techniques to improve the routing efficiency for mobile IP and a binding optimization technique to reduce the handoff latency for mobile nodes. An enhanced correspondent agent was introduced to collaborate with the home agent and the foreign agent to support these techniques. Utilizing a tunneling cache, datagrams sent from a mobile node can be directly tunneled to a correspondent agent, including Binding Update messages. The proposed approach can maximize the use of a bi-directional tunnel without abandoning the transparency to existing hosts. Learning from our deployment experience, the enhanced mobile IP protocol is suitable for wireless LANs that provide broadband multimedia and location-based services. Keywords—mobile IP; route optimization; triangle routing; ingress-filtering routers; reverse tunneling

Route Optimization with AAA in Network Mobility

In general, the nested mobile networks easily suffer from a bi-directional pinball routing with hierarchically multiple mobile routers. To handle this matter, several route optimization schemes have been proposed. But, to make network mobility feasible in public wireless Internet, well-defined authentication, authorization, and accounting protocols (AAA) should be accompanied. Hence, we combine...

User-Controlled Handover in Wireless LANs

This paper adresses the optimization of handovers in a Wireless LAN/Mobile IP/QoS environment by giving control over the link layer handover process to the mobile node. This is done by transfering parts of the hardware’s functionality to a management software residing on the mobile node. The required handover thresholds have been determined by analyzing the wireless LAN hardware. The implemente...

Hierarchical mobile network binding scheme for route optimization in NEMO

Recently, there has been a great deal of research on network mobility management that can support the movement of a mobile network consisting of several mobile nodes. The IETF NEMO working group proposed a basic support protocol, which defines methodology for supporting network mobility by using bi-directional tunneling between the home agent and the mobile router. This protocol, however, suffe...

iSCSI Multi-connection and Error Recovery Method for Remote Storage System in Mobile Appliance

Mobile IP is a solution to support mobile nodes but it does not handle NEtwork MObility (NEMO). The NEMO Basic Support [2] ensures session continuity for all the nodes in the mobile network. Since the protocol is based on Mobile IP, it inherits the same fundamental problem such as tunnel convergence, when supporting the multicast for NEMO. In this paper, we propose the multicast route optimizat...
